The Vege-Table

An edible installation for the Berlin State Opera’s Sustainable Listening Series
exploring food, art, and sustainability.

For the Sustainable Listening series at the Berlin State Opera, Vitamin Color was commissioned to create a culinary installation that embodied the event’s theme of food and sustainability.

The result was The Vege-Table - a striking fusion of culinary artistry, storytelling, and interactive design that celebrated vegetables in their raw, unfiltered beauty. Presented in two interpretations - Baroque and Modern - the installation formed a visual dialogue between past and present, merging historical grandeur with contemporary sustainability.

The Baroque Vege-Table drew inspiration from the opulence of Baroque art - abundant textures and dramatic compositions reminiscent of still-life paintings where food symbolized pleasure and vitality.

The Modern Vege-Table, by contrast, embraced minimalism and structure. Beneath a glass surface, raw vegetables formed the foundation of the table, symbolizing the essentials of cooking from scratch. As guests dined, layers of vegetables slowly emerged, revealing the connection between ingredient and creation - an edible metaphor for transparency and awareness in food culture.

Through this evolving structure, the installation invited guests to reflect on the origins of food, sustainability, and the creative process itself.
